The Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences form Finland’s second-largest multidisciplinary and impactful research and learning community. The IT unit of the Information Technology Services (Tietohallinto) develops and maintains centralized IT services for teaching, research and staff. The role sits in the Continuous Services team, responsible for maintaining and developing IT infrastructure used by about 53,000 users. The IT Architect will work as part of Linux and research IT teams with primary responsibility for the Linux server environments. Responsibilities include designing and maintaining Linux infrastructure solutions, contributing to planning and implementing research IT service needs, and developing HPC and AI Linux environments for scientific computing. The position supports a campus-spanning, centrally managed Linux infrastructure with hundreds of servers and thousands of cores. The team is seeking a capable, problem-solving IT architect who can operate independently and collaborate with colleagues to advance the university’s digital footprint. The successful candidate will have practical experience with Linux server administration, knowledge of HPC/AI Linux environments, and a willingness to learn and adapt. We value initiative, collaboration, customer-focused attitude, and strong Suomen and English language skills. Knowledge of container technologies (Kubernetes, OpenShift), scripting (Bash, Python), automation (Ansible), scientific computing applications and local AI/ML deployments is a plus.
