School Chaplain

We are seeking a permanent appointment for a Leading School Chaplain to work in Tampere Evangelical Lutheran Diocese in Tampere University as part of a diverse, international academic community. The role involves guiding a skilled team within the school collaboration unit, which includes five pastors and a school diaconate, and acting as supervisor to the four-person Uusi Verso community team. As the Tampere University Chaplain, you will promote wellbeing and sense of community among members, together with other actors, within the growing scientific community. Responsibilities include spiritual support, counseling, crisis work, group activities, collaboration with wellbeing actors in educational institutions, conducting worship services and devotions, and organizing various events. You are expected to take a holistic approach to work, to develop together with other actors and professions, and to listen to and respect each person’s experiences. You will collaborate with local congregations and other parish activities, and you will oversee one confirmation year. The position requires initiative, knowledge of the field, strong networking and negotiation skills, and excellent Finnish (oral and written) skills, satisfactory Swedish, and good English (spoken and written). Desirable are leadership experience, experience as a supervisor/coach, and versatile communication skills. Applicants must have priestly ordination (eligibility for the Lutheran priestly office) and leadership training, plus the church’s special training for school employees or commitment to completing it. The appointed person must be confirmed member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, provide a medical certificate and a police record. The post is to be filled from January 11, 2027, with a six-month probationary period. The salary is determined by the church’s salary framework and the base monthly pay is 4248.38 €/month, with additional experience-based pay of 140.50–513.50 €/month. The workplace is Tampere University building Pinni B, and the supervisor is the Director of Common Education.
