University Lecturer

We are seeking a university lecturer in political science for the Department of Social Sciences and Business Studies. The position will be located at the Joensuu campus and is to be filled on 1.1.2027 and be permanent. The lecturer tasks include providing basic, subject and advanced teaching in political science, guiding theses in Finnish and English, conducting research and applying for research funding, and taking part in the department’s administration. The lecturer will develop the department's education and research and coordinate research projects in collaboration with staff. The position starts 1.1.2027 with six months trial period. Salary follows the university teaching and research personnel pay scale; base component is in levels 6–7 and an additional personal performance pay of 6–50% of the base. Depending on level and performance, the starting salary is about 4350–5650 EUR per month. The applicant is expected to have a doctoral degree in social or political sciences or a related field, broad research and teaching qualifications, good Finnish language skills and ability to supervise theses in English, and a record of scientific publications in political science. Desirable are experience and skills in qualitative and quantitative methods, pedagogical training and development, produced learning materials, networking and securing research funding, and a research orientation in one or more of the department’s focus areas. Teaching ability is assessed according to the department’s guidelines and portfolios.
