We are seeking a University Lecturer in Social Work to a fixed-term position in the Department of Social Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies, at the University of Eastern Finland (UEF). The position is located on the Kuopio campus and is filled for the period 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2029. The application deadline is 15 October 2026. The Department of Social Sciences at Itä-Suomen yliopisto operates on the Joensuu and Kuopio campuses. The focal areas for the department during 2020–2025 have included the social dimension of wellbeing, education and work, mobility, and borders. The University Lecturer’s duties include providing foundational, subject-specific, and advanced teaching in social work in Finnish and English, conducting scholarly research and seeking research funding, and participating in administration and other jointly defined tasks. Together with the department’s teaching staff, the University Lecturer develops the education and research of the subject and coordinates research projects. The position is filled for three years beginning 1 January 2027. The reason for fixed-term is a replacement position. A six-month probationary period applies for new staff. Salary follows the salary system for university teaching and research staff; the pay comprises a job-specific element (range 3925.63–4525.66 €/month) and a performance-based supplement of 6–50% of the job-specific element. Desired qualifications include a doctoral degree in social sciences or political science, strong teaching ability, broad teaching experience, research outputs in the field, and good Finnish with the ability to teach in English if required. Desirable is experience with quantitative research methods, knowledge of networking and obtaining research funding, and pedagogical studies. The assessment of teaching ability follows the faculty’s guidelines, which prioritise demonstrated teaching merit in a portfolio.
