Senior Research Fellow in literary studies and/or philosophy of literature. The position is fixed-term for two years starting in January 2027 (or as agreed). The Senior Research Fellow will contribute to the Centre of Excellence in Meliorist Philosophy of Suffering (MePhiS) at Tampere University, focusing on representations of suffering and meliorism in literature and philosophy, developing scholarly analyses, authoring publications, collaborating with team members, and participating in teaching and administrative duties (approximately 5-10% of working time). The working language of the MePhiS group is English; excellent written and oral English skills are required.

Responsibilities
- Investigating representations of suffering and meliorism in literary and philosophical contexts
- Developing literary and philosophical analyses of ethical responses to suffering
- Authoring scholarly publications on the research topic
- Collaborating with other Centre of Excellence members through joint publications and other activities
- Contributing to teaching and administrative duties (5-10% of time)
Requirements
- Doctoral degree in a relevant field within the humanities or social sciences (e.g., literary studies, philosophy)
- demonstrated track record of high-quality research and international publications
- ability to lead a research group and secure external funding
- excellent written and oral communication skills in English
