Job Description

Youth work carried out by Youth Services is educational work that reflects the perspectives of young people in Rovaniemi and listens to them, providing children and youth with diverse leisure activities, hobbies, information, guidance, and support, while promoting their opportunities for participation and influence. The organization of Rovaniemi's youth services is built on four forms of work: targeted, community-based, and experiential youth work, as well as services that enable youth work. The goal of work in accordance with the values of Youth Services is to promote measures that make Rovaniemi an equal Lapland city where young people thrive, feel well, and have diverse opportunities for self-realization. Substitutes are available in the following youth work roles: In community-based youth work, the key responsibilities of a youth instructor include the planning and implementation of youth center activities, school youth work, camps, trips, and events. The youth instructor is also responsible for reporting and finances within their area of responsibility. The work requires good interaction skills combined with guidance expertise and knowledge of youth service systems and youth cultures. Most importantly, a desire to learn, act, and develop meaningful work for the well-being of children and youth is required. Work is primarily done with a partner and the work community. In targeted youth work, the task of outreach youth work is to find and support young people who have fallen or are falling outside of education and the labor market and need support to reach public sector services and engage with available services. Basic tasks include individual and small group guidance for youth, multidisciplinary network work, and outreach to young people. The outreach youth worker operates as part of a multidisciplinary team, and the work is mobile and includes some evening work. Eligibility requirements for substitutes include a suitable degree in the field, e.g., a vocational qualification in education and guidance, a suitable higher education degree, or a previous institute-level degree. Other suitable degrees and students in the final stages of their studies will also be considered. Work begins as agreed. Salary and other terms of employment are determined according to KVTES. The person selected for the position must present a criminal record extract in accordance with Act 504/2002 (Act on the Checking of the Criminal Background of Persons Working with Children) before starting work. Applications are processed regularly, and suitable applicants will be contacted by phone to arrange an interview. Identity and necessary certificates will be verified during the interview.
