We are now looking for future multi-skilled process industry professionals for UPM Communication Papers’ Jämsänkoski paper mill for an apprenticeship programme lasting approximately two years. Those selected for the programme, which starts in January 2027, will be offered an indefinite employment relationship and high-quality classroom-based theoretical training to strengthen versatile professional skills. Cooperation with supervisors and colleagues works well, and the workplace instructors have also been excellent!” What you will do At the paper mill, you will work in production and maintenance duties at different stages of the production process, actively participating in maintenance tasks as well. - Become familiar with different stages of the paper production process and participate in daily production work in various production departments. - Gain experience in production and maintenance duties; previous experience is considered an advantage. - The work includes, for example, field rounds, equipment inspections and various repair tasks. Working hours Most employees at the paper mill work continuous three-shift schedules. Each shift is eight hours long, and the usual rotation is two morning shifts from 06:00 to 14:00, two evening shifts from 14:00 to 22:00 and two night shifts from 22:00 to 06:00, followed by four days off. Who you are - You have a suitable technical vocational qualification (electrical, automation, process, or mechanical and production technology). - Previous practical work experience in the process industry and maintenance duties (mechanical maintenance or electrical and automation maintenance) is considered an advantage. - You are strongly motivated to develop your professional skills and interested in studying maintenance topics during the training. - You are proactive, able to take responsibility and make decisions in changing process conditions. - You enjoy teamwork and respond flexibly to changing situations in the work community. - You are ready to work shifts. - You communicate fluently in Finnish. English skills are considered an advantage. Pay The apprentice’s pay is based on a local pay-system agreement and develops according to skills and individual performance. For an experienced production employee with good professional skills, regular annual earnings at UPM paper mills are approximately €55,000–€60,000 in continuous three-shift work. Pay for the position is determined by the demands of the duties, individual skills and work performance. In addition, employees are covered by UPM’s incentive reward system.
