About the role
We are now looking for a Research Assistant to explore means of applying AI agents in our ongoing research. The objective is to identify and evaluate promising applications of AI agents in computational electromagnetics and related software development. The exact topic will be decided based on the background and interests of the selected candidate. The position may involve developing AI agents for integration and maintenance of computational codes in languages such as MATLAB, Python and Fortran, creating AI agent-based workflows for verification, validation and benchmarking, and developing AI agents for automated implementation of electromagnetics algorithms. The topics may be suitable for B.Sc. or M.Sc. theses.

Responsibilities
- development of AI agent-based workflows for verification, validation and benchmarking computational electromagnetics software
- integration and maintenance of computational codes written in MATLAB, Python and Fortran
- development of AI agents for automated implementation of computational electromagnetics algorithms
- topics potentially suitable for B.Sc. or M.Sc. theses
Requirements
- A successful candidate has a B.Sc. or M.Sc. study right in a Finnish university
- an excellent study record in a relevant engineering field
- experience in programming and interest in applying AI tools in electromagnetic modeling
- experience with or interest in MATLAB, Python or Fortran
- experience with scientific computing (e.g., finite element method)
- familiarity with dynamic electromagnetics, electrical machines and transformers
- experience with open-weight AI models, local AI deployment tools (e.g. Ollama, OpenCode) and agentic AI workflows
- experience with customizing large language models
- good English language skills
