We are now seeking a capable and solution-focused IT architect to join our team responsible for Linux server environments within our broad Linux service: you will be part of the Continuous Services team in IT Administration, providing IT infrastructure services for a community of about 53,000 users. The Linux infrastructure comprises roughly 600 servers and 100 workstations in the Linux environment, plus HPC and AI Linux workloads with more than 200 servers, 5000 CPU cores and NVIDIA GPU capacity. Your duties as an IT architect include: centralized management and development of Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments; participating in planning and implementing university IT services in support of research; designing and delivering Linux servers for research environments; developing and maintaining HPC and AI Linux-based environments for scientific computing. We value prior experience in demanding specialist IT implementation projects, a proactive attitude, and a strong desire to learn. You should have self-motivation, problem-solving skills, good customer service orientation, team-working abilities, and fluency in Finnish and English. We appreciate experience with container technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, OpenShift, OKD), scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python), automation (e.g., Ansible), and experience with scientific computing applications and local AI/ML solutions (e.g., vLLM and open models). Tampere University is a unique, multidisciplinary and forward-looking community, guided by values such as openness, critical thinking, diversity, learner-centricity, courage, civilization, and responsibility. We hope you will commit to these values in your work with us. We offer an interesting and varied role in a stimulating work community where you can develop your skills and have a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of a significant higher education community. The position is filled as a permanent appointment; the start date will be as soon as possible according to the agreement. The workplace is Tampere. The job is subject to a six-month trial period under the Employment Contracts Act. Salaries are determined according to the universities’ collective agreement for other professionals and support staff. The initial job level is 10–11, with additional pay for performance. You may state your salary expectation. In addition to a supervisor, you will be supported by highly skilled colleagues. Our employee benefits include affordable restaurant and café services on all three campuses, sport/culture/wellbeing benefits (ePassi), comprehensive occupational health care, and a “one hour of your work time for exercise” benefit.
