Practical Nurse

We are looking for practical nurses for temporary assignments in Helsinki home-care teams and the resource pool. You will do meaningful work supporting clients’ everyday lives, functional ability and independence, while developing your skills in varied work environments. Open positions: Southern home-care unit: Lauttasaari 1, as soon as possible–29 November 2026. Northeastern home-care unit: Pukinmäki 1, part-time substitute position (40%), as soon as possible–31 December 2026. Centralised home-care services: Resource Pool 1, as soon as possible–31 December 2026; work area: southern and partly western home-care teams. Resource Pool 2, as soon as possible–19 January 2027; work area: central and partly western and northern home-care teams. Western home-care unit: Haaga 5, as soon as possible–31 December 2026. Northern home-care unit: Paloheinä 1, as soon as possible–31 December 2026. You may state on the application form which team you would prefer. Our clients are older people, people recovering from illness, people with multiple conditions and people with disabilities who need care because their physical and/or mental functional ability has declined. We aim to support a safe life of their own choosing in their homes. The work is mobile, varied and independent. You meet clients in their homes. Your workday starts and ends at your work base, from which you travel to clients on foot, by bicycle, car or public transport. In home-care teams, you mainly work with clients in the same area, enabling long-term care relationships. In the resource pool, you work in different home-care areas, covering absences and supporting the teams’ daily work. The work suits you if you enjoy varied days and want to develop your skills in different home-care settings. Your duties include supporting clients’ functional ability and rehabilitation; basic care and everyday assistance; medication and wound care and other nursing tasks; acting as the responsible nurse for your clients; recording in the Apotti client information system; and cooperating with a multidisciplinary team and relatives. What we expect: availability for morning and evening shifts between 7:00 and 21:30, including weekends; independent and responsible work in clients’ homes; respectful encounters and encouragement for clients to maintain their functional ability; good physical fitness and ability to handle changing situations; good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team; previous home-care experience; and valid LOVe medication permits. Due to the short substitute assignments, the medication permits must be valid when employment begins. Apotti and RAI skills, a category B driving licence and ability to drive a manual-transmission car, and cycling skills are considered advantages. Interested? Eligibility: a practical nurse qualification and registration in the central register of healthcare professionals maintained by the Finnish Supervisory Agency. Good spoken and written Finnish is required, at least level B2.1 on the Common European Framework of Reference scale. Spoken Finnish is needed to meet clients, assess their condition and cooperate with relatives and colleagues. As you work independently in clients’ homes, you must understand their needs and make observations without continuous support. Written Finnish is needed to prepare client and patient records and understand work instructions and client information. Before a selection decision, applicants must provide an occupational health assessment of their ability to perform the duties and a certificate concerning a drug test. A tuberculosis investigation under section 55 of the Communicable Diseases Act is required. Before accepting the position, the selected person must provide a criminal record extract under the legislation concerning the investigation of the criminal background of people working with older people (Act on the Supervision of Social Welfare and Health Care, 741/2023, section 28), if the employment lasts more than three months during a year.
