A bricklayer and related worker, for example a bricklayer, block layer, fireplace builder, chimney bricklayer or furnace bricklayer, uses mortar to lay bricks, blocks and stone to build or repair walls, partitions, fireplaces, chimneys and ovens. According to Job Market Finland, bricklayers build foundations, walls and pillars on construction sites, and may specialise, for example, in technical bricklaying or fireplace building. They work for construction companies and as entrepreneurs. The occupation can be entered, for example, through the vocational qualification in construction (talonrakentaja or kivirakentaja), which can also be completed as an apprenticeship.
