Would you like to develop a solution that prevents quality defects before they occur? We are looking for a master’s thesis student to develop an intelligent monitoring method for tracking molten steel level in a continuous casting mold. The objective is to identify mold level events that are detrimental to production performance, product quality, and process stability in a reliable and real-time manner. The work will utilize measurement and process data collected from the continuous casting process and develop methods for the automatic detection of harmful mold level events. The thesis may include topics such as: Definition and classification of harmful mold level events; Analysis of process and measurement data; Signal processing and monitoring methods; Alarm and classification algorithms; Validation of the solution using production data; Recommendations for implementation and further development. The focus can be tailored to background and interests, e.g., process control, automation, data analytics, signal processing, or machine learning. We Are Looking for You If You Are studying Automation Engineering, Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or another relevant field; Are interested in process monitoring, measurement systems, and data analytics; Have basic knowledge of Python or similar analytical tools; Work independently and have a strong analytical mindset; Previous experience in metallurgy or process industries is an advantage but not required.
