We are looking for a Test & Equipment Engineer to join Elmery’s growing technology team in Helsinki. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, working with equipment and turning ideas into working solutions.
You will design, build, operate and develop the equipment and test setups used in Elmery’s technology development. You will work closely with testing and experimental development, helping turn technical needs and laboratory-scale concepts into practical, reliable and repeatable solutions. The work combines mechanical engineering with electrical engineering, instrumentation and automation.
The role is varied and practical, and your tasks will change according to the team’s needs. We are looking for someone willing to take on new technical challenges and everyday practical tasks, learn, adapt and get things done.
Join Elmery and help turn technology development into practical, scalable solutions for more sustainable metal recovery.
Company: Elmery Oy. Location: Kivihaka, Helsinki. Starting date: As soon as possible or by agreement. Employment: Full-time, permanent, 37.5 hours per week.
This is not just desk-based engineering. One day you may assemble equipment; another day you may troubleshoot a technical problem, work with instrumentation or automation, take part in experimental testing or handle routine maintenance and testing. We value initiative, enthusiasm for practical work and the confidence to take on unfamiliar tasks.
You will also take part in experimental work and laboratory testing when needed. Previous laboratory education or advanced analytical skills are not required.
You will work mainly at Elmery’s facilities in Kivihaka, Helsinki. The role may include occasional international travel to customer sites for testing and technology deployment.
What you will do:
- Take comprehensive responsibility for equipment, from design, construction and commissioning through operation, maintenance and continuous development.
- Develop experimental concepts into practical, resource-efficient and scalable solutions using mechanical, electrical and automation engineering and instrumentation.
- Ensure equipment reliability, usability and fitness for purpose through preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, spare-parts planning and supplier collaboration.
- Support laboratory- and pilot-scale testing, including experiment preparation, execution and practical problem-solving.
- Identify equipment improvements and implement them, use lessons learned, and document technical changes and results.
- Ensure equipment is used safely and efficiently with researchers, technicians and the rest of the technology team.
We expect you to have relevant engineering or other technical education; practical experience in equipment development, prototype building, testing, maintenance or other relevant technical work; and broad technical understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering, instrumentation and automation. You do not need to be an expert in every area. You are ready to work with tools and equipment and put technical ideas into practice, take on unfamiliar tasks and adapt to changing needs. You work systematically and understand equipment safety and risk assessment. Good spoken and written English is required; Finnish is an advantage. You must be willing to travel internationally when needed.
We also value experience in industrial environments, machine design, control systems, process engineering or metallurgy. We do not expect you to know everything already.
You will do well if you are hands-on and proactive, enjoy putting ideas into practice and are ready to do the work yourself; versatile and curious, willing to take on different tasks and learn by doing; solution-oriented and resource-conscious, finding reliable solutions without unnecessary complexity and considering construction, maintenance and repeatability; and a team player who works well with people in different fields and contributes where needed.
We offer the opportunity to help develop patented technology into world-class products for international markets; a varied engineering role taking ideas from early experiments to working technical solutions; opportunities to develop your skills in equipment development, instrumentation, automation and technology scale-up; freedom and responsibility to solve real technical challenges and see the results of your work; and a motivated, international team working toward more sustainable metal recovery.
Apply by sending your application and CV in Finnish or English to careers@elmery.fi no later than 8 November 2026. Include your salary expectations.
