The duties of a history and social studies teacher at Olarin Integrated Basic School. We are looking for a professionally ambitious history and social studies teacher with good teamwork skills, capable of working in a diverse and multicultural school environment. Olarin School is a comprehensive school for grades 1-9. As of August 2026, the school has approximately 800 students at two locations: Opinmäki campus (grades 1-4) and Olarinniityntie (grades 5-9). Our school is a diverse and multicultural neighborhood school for local children and youth. Grades 7-9 offer specialized mathematics and science instruction. We also provide inclusive preparatory education for immigrants and work-oriented basic education. Learning fundamental life skills and knowledge is important at Olarin School. The teaching staff collaborates closely with each other, as well as with the school’s community counselor and student welfare personnel. Our motto is "together experimenting and succeeding." Teacher qualifications are determined according to the decree on the qualifications of teaching staff (no 986/98). According to section 9 of the decree, a teacher providing basic education must have excellent oral and written skills in Finnish. The role requires readiness and willingness for co-teaching and parallel teaching, flexibility, student-centered approaches, and good teamwork, interaction, and classroom management skills. Applicants must present a criminal record extract as specified in section 6.2 of the Criminal Records Act. Previous experience as a class tutor and activities promoting student participation and school engagement, such as guiding student councils, peer helpers, or organizing school events and celebrations, are valued.
