The Finnish Family Law Unit is seeking a temporary child welfare officer for the period from August 3, 2026, to July 31, 2027. The unit provides family law services to residents of all municipalities in Kanta-Häme. Our offices are located in Hämeenlinna, Riihimäki, and Forssa. The primary workplace for the child welfare officer will be in Hämeenlinna, but work may include meetings in Riihimäki and, if necessary, Forssa. Remote work is possible approximately one day per week. Currently, the Family Law Unit employs a total of 5 child welfare officers, 2 social workers, 2 service secretaries, and a senior manager. In addition to child welfare and home environment assessment services, the unit is responsible for supervised and supported visitations, exchanges, and adoption counseling. The duties of the child welfare officer include confirming agreements related to child custody, residence, visitation, and maintenance, providing divorce counseling, and establishing parenthood for children born outside of marriage. Evaluating parents’ ability to support their children and preparing child support calculations are central tasks. If necessary, duties may also include preparing home environment reports for courts in child custody, residence, and visitation disputes. The role may also involve family mediation. The position requires good communication and teamwork skills, as well as strong oral and written expression. We also value an independent, proactive work approach and a positive, development-oriented attitude. The candidate must have a social worker qualification according to the Act on Social Welfare Professionals (817/2015) or a suitable higher university degree. Previous experience in child welfare work or social work with families is preferred. You will receive thorough orientation and support from colleagues. Regular supervision sessions are organized for staff. The salary for this position is €4,100 per month. In addition, experience-based salary increases of 0% to 8% may be paid. The length of service also affects the accrual of vacation days. The working hours are 38.25 hours per week.
